Eugenijus Chrebtovas, one of the most famous Lithuanian baritones of today, and Raminta Lampsatytė, pianist, vocal tutor and musicologist, who is an ambassador of Lithuanian culture in Germany, will join forces for a special concert of vocal masterpieces. For their joint project, the artists have chosen two vocal cycles representing both the countries represented by the composers and their culture of art song, which has reached unprecedented heights of perfection thanks to these composers.

Gustav Mahler’s vocal cycle “Songs of a Wayfarer”, a four-movement work with the composer’s own text, is considered to be one of the composer’s most romantic works. The cycle, which demands great concentration, professional skill and extraordinary emotional expression from the performers, encapsulates in four songs the entire story of a young man’s life and love, taking the listener from unbounded joy through disappointment to poignant enlightenment.

Ralph Vaughan Williams’s vocal cycle “Songs of Travel”, set to the words of Robert Louis Stevenson, is perhaps deservedly considered one of the most expressive examples of British vocal music. The nine-movement work is highly contrasting, reflecting a wide range of emotional expressions, with a melodic quality and well-developed drama. Like Mahler’s Songs of the Wayfarer, it deservedly occupies an important position in the golden fund of the baritone repertoire of all times.
