Choral music lovers will be treated to sacred music opuses by composers from North and South America, performed by the Camerata Carolina, the chamber choir of the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and Franz Wassermann, conductor.
The choir is directed by Franz Wassermann, a professor at the University of Heidelberg, who organises the musical activities of the university community. He studied at the universities of Karlsruhe, Rome, Stuttgart and Trossingen. Since the founding of the academic choir Capella Carolina in 1993, he has directed the choir and its two smaller divisions, the chamber choir Camerata Carolina and the vocal ensemble. Wassermann is also a visiting professor at the University of Heidelberg, a visiting professor at universities in Canada, the USA, Chile, Georgia, Armenia and Italy, a concert organist, guest conductor of the orchestra of the Georgian State Philharmonic in Kutaisi and the Armenian State Opera Theatre.
Camerata Carolina is a group belonging to the International Study Centre at the University of Heidelberg, specialising in the a cappella repertoire, which includes hymns from the Gregorian chant era to the opuses of contemporary composers. Now in its 28th year of existence, the group has become a true musical ambassador of its home university, representing its alma mater both internationally and in official ceremonies. The ensemble’s concert itineraries have taken it all over the world: from Canada to Chile, from Georgia to Italy, etc.
