“The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra (LCO) is like a musical instrument of the highest quality in terms of its sound and interpretation traditions. I think it is one of the leaders of its genre,” is how violinist Sergej Krylov, who became the artistic director of the orchestra in December 2008 after a number of successful concerts in Lithuania, describes the LCO. Having won first prizes in the Stradivari and Kreisler competitions, Krylov has performed at the Berlin and Munich Philharmonics, Vienna’s Musikverein and Konzerthaus, Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, and Buenos Aires’ Teatro Colón, among others. With LCO, Krylov has given more than two hundred concerts worldwide.
In this concert, LCO and S. Krylov perform with pianist Andrius Žlabys. The Grammy-nominated Lithuanian pianist and composer, who lives in the United States, impresses the audience with both his technical mastery and the depth of his interpretations. His biography includes concerts with some of the world’s greatest orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston, Cleveland and Rotterdam symphonies, the Buenos Aires Philharmonic, and many other great ensembles. He has performed at New York’s Carnegie Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, London’s Wigmore Hall, Vienna’s Musikverein, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, and other world-famous halls.
Lithuanian audiences always give him an enthusiastic welcome, especially when he plays the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. No less intriguing is the music composed by Žlabys himself, which will be performed in Kaunas for the first time. And when Sergej Krylov takes on Giuseppe Tartini’s legendary Devil’s Trolls, all you can do is let yourself get lost in the music!
