The Assumption Feast is an ancient celebration of the apogee of green growth and the maturity of the harvest, and the Catholic feast of St. It is the oldest and most venerable of all celebrations in honour of the Mother of God. It is symbolic that the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Dubingiai is the most important of all. The programme of the concert at St George’s Church in Dubingis will include the most beautiful hymns and arias dedicated to Our Lady, performed by the VMU Chamber Orchestra, soloist Eglė Stundžiaitė and conductor Vytautas Lukočius.
The VMU Chamber Orchestra, founded in 2011 at the Vytautas Magnus University Academy of Music, is the only professional chamber orchestra in Kaunas. It was founded not only to expand the culture of classical music and its contemporary interpretations in the temporary capital, but also to represent Lithuania, the city of Kaunas and the university on an international level and to represent them abroad.
In the relatively short period of its existence, the orchestra has already performed more than 200 concerts in Lithuania and abroad, participated in the main Lithuanian festivals, as well as in the Euro-Mediterranean Youth Music Expo 2012 festival in the Republic of Cyprus, in 2013 the orchestra debuted at the prestigious Schleswig-Holstein Festival in Germany, in 2017 the orchestra made a tour in the United States of America, and in 2019 it performed at the international chamber music festival “Salkhino palace camerata” in Sakhartveli.
