The Pažaislis Music Festival, together with the Lithuanian Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Casimir, invites you to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. This is a traditional example of a beautiful collaboration between the monastery and the festival. As usual, the Feast of the Assumption in Pažaislis will be celebrated during Mass with the Kaunas State Choir conducted by Mindaugas Radzevičius.
The Assumption Feast is a celebration of the apogee of greenery and the maturity of the harvest, dating back to ancient times, and the Catholic feast of St. John the Baptist. It is the oldest and most venerable of all celebrations in honour of the Mother of God. In Lithuania, it is known as the Feast of the Assumption because of the custom of blessing herbs, flowers and plants in the fields in churches on this day since the earliest Christian times. It is believed that consecrated flowers protect the home from thunder, fire and evil spirits. According to Catholic belief, the body of Mary, who died in the 5th century, did not remain in the tomb but was spiritualized and taken to Heaven. The Virgin Mary was taken from the tomb of the Virgin Mary and placed in the body of the Virgin Mary. In his writings, St. John of Damascus mentions the common story that the Apostles gathered in Jerusalem to say goodbye to the Mother of the Saviour. After the funeral, they kept vigil at the tomb of the Mother of God until Peter, enlightened by God, announced that Mary had risen and offered to open her coffin. Mary’s body was no longer there, but the coffin was full of the most beautiful flowers and herbs. “And there appeared a great sign in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.”
