The Gesualdo Six, one of the strongest British vocal ensembles, continuing the tradition of a cappella (unaccompanied) singing by male choirs, is coming to Lithuania for the first time! Critics praise the group for its inventive concert programmes and flawless performances: “the sound seems to float in the air until it reaches the ears of an enthralled audience… Every line, every gorgeous texture was dazzlingly transparent” (The Times).

The multi-award-winning ensemble was born in 2014 when Owain Park brought together some of the UK’s finest young singers for a performance at Trinity College Chapel, Cambridge. “I felt something click when we came together to rehearse for the first time, and I don’t think we’ve looked back since then! The special feeling of hyper-engaged music-making, coupled with a good deal of enjoyment in each other’s company, has meant that this group has stuck together and embarked on an exciting journey,” says the ensemble leader.

The Gesualdo Six have taken part in many important festivals in the UK, Europe, North America and Australia. Highlights include a concert in the famous Deutschlandradio Debut Series, a debut at the Wigmore Hall in 2021, and collaborations with renowned musicians such as the Brodsky Quartet, the London Mozart Players, Luxmuralis, William Barton, Matilda Lloyd and others. The ensemble’s discography includes five highly acclaimed CDs. Important activities of the ensemble include seminars for young musicians and composers, two composition competitions, the second of which attracted more than three hundred composers from all over the world. The ensemble’s repertoire is constantly expanding through collaboration with contemporary composers and the commissioning of new works.

“The Gesualdo Six create rich and plangent aural tapestries” (BBC Music Magazine), which you can enjoy at the XXXIII Pažaislis Music Festival!
