The Kaunas String Quartet and accordionist Laimonas Salijus invite the audience to take a musical journey spanning three continents—within just one hour. The program will feature an expressive, rhythm-filled quintet by American composer Sam Reider, a Latin Grammy nominee known for creatively blending folk and jazz idioms. His three-part work for accordion and string quartet will be performed in Lithuania for the first time.
The program also includes Latin American rhythms and harmonies with the Fifth String Quartet by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, known as the ‘Popular Quartet’. Lithuanian music will be represented through Scherzo by Arvydas Malcys (from his concerto for accordion and string quartet) and the charming Habanera by Eduardas Balsys—demonstrating that rhythm and vibrancy are firmly present in Lithuanian music traditions as well.
