Free admission

In the historic Kaunas Church of St. Trinity (Seminary Church), a selection of pieces from the vast treasury of liturgical music of the Roman Catholic Church will be presented, including antiphons, psalms, hymns, motets, and preludes by Juozas Naujalis. The participants of the traditional Gregorian Chant Week in Marijampolė, assembled in the Cantores Montis Pacis choir, led this year by Christoph Hönerlage, a professor at the Regensburg Higher School of Catholic Ecclesiastical Music and Music Pedagogy, along with the choir Veritas and organist Dalius Kavalevskis, will recreate the enigmatic musical ambiance of a seminary at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. This year commemorates the 130th anniversary of composer and organist Naujalis’s training in Regensburg (1894), where he gained invaluable experience and inspiration for his compositions and the sharing of knowledge. To honor the 150th anniversary of the establishment of this renowned German school of church music (1874), the performers of the concert will utilize the words of the Gregorian hymn “Vexilla regis prodeunt” to forge a link of remembrance between Regensburg and Kaunas.
