The Pažaislis Music Festival invites you to a concert dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Lithuanian composer Vytautas Klova. The Old Zapyškis Church will host a performance of the composer’s rarely performed vocal cycle “Wedding Songs,” based on motifs from Lithuanian folk songs.
This work will be performed by bass Tadas Girininkas and pianist Evelina Pilipavičiūtė. The cycle was composed in 1971 and consists of twenty parts that reveal the traditions of a Lithuanian wedding—from the joy of the celebration to lyrical, intimate experiences.
“Wedding Songs” stands out for its subtle blend of folk melodies and professional compositional language. It is music in which folk motifs take on a new sound, and the voice becomes the central axis of the narrative.
The concert program will be complemented by V. Klova’s works for piano, which expand the composer’s musical world and allow his work to be experienced in a broader context.
This is an evening inviting you to encounter the tradition of Lithuanian music and hear it in a new, sensitive, and contemporary way.

The concert is organized in collaboration with the Kaunas State Philharmonic
