National Prize laureate composer Giedrius Kuprevičius celebrates a significant anniversary this year – he turns 80. “In encounters with works of art, we often satisfy ourselves with the expressed result. However, we almost never consider what reasons prompted artists to undertake certain themes, content, or anxieties. This happens in all areas of our lives – more often we analyze, comment on, and discuss results, rather than the reasons that led to them. So, I invite you to look at phenomena not only with eyes or ears that see consequences but to find time and willingness to understand those consequences as the result of a process, existence, motives, ideas. Without understanding the origins and conditions of results, a full understanding and complete emotional experience of the artwork are impossible. And having learned to look deeper into the phenomena of the art world, perhaps we will transfer some of those abilities into our lives and activities – things will become clearer and perhaps a little brighter,” the composer himself speaks about the reasons for creative expressions.

In this concert program, performers will take a deeper look into G. Kuprevičius’s chamber music by discussing it live with the composer himself. Audiences can expect a meeting with baritone and piano trio, soprano and piano, violin and cello, showcasing G. Kuprevičius’s opuses, undoubtedly witty discussions with the “cautious radical” presenter and a plethora of surprises presented to the jubilant artist by his composer colleagues Zita Bružaitė, Šarūnas Nakas, and Antanas Jasenka.
